Eddie Vedder reflects on near-death experience with Pearl Jam after tour dates are canceled

Pearl Jam are officially back on stage after cancelling a number of their shows last year. Frontman Eddie Vedder recalled the experience he and his band had to endure, saying it was terrifying.

The band performed in Barcelona over the weekend and Vedder solved the band’s concert cancellation, saying, “It almost feels like a near-death experience.”

He described the incident as “very unpleasant and scary,” adding, “It felt like chest bronchitis. It felt like you couldn’t breathe, and you probably wouldn’t make it through the night, and you probably would have to go to the hospital.”

While the singer did not name which members of the band and crew had contracted the disease, he noted that it had affected some of them.

“You realize how precious life is. We are so lucky to live on a planet where we can travel and play music with amazing people like the people in this room tonight,” he added.

Vedder noted that it was a profound experience for everyone and something they will not forget for the foreseeable future.

The latest update comes weeks after the band took to social media to announce they had to cancel their June 2 and 3 shows in Berlin after cancelling their London show in June.

They noted that the band was not yet “fully recovered” at the time and that they never took these decisions lightly. Fans who purchased tickets for their canceled shows will receive full refunds.
