Will Patti LaBelle Retire After Celebrating 65 Years in the Music Industry?

Patti LaBelle is a living legend. She has released countless albums that are loved and celebrated by the public. This year, the iconic musician celebrates 65 years in the music industry, but even though she is 80 years old, it doesn’t look like she’ll be stopping performing anytime soon.

The singer’s career began in the 1960s as the lead singer of the group Patti Labelle & the Bluebelles, which later became the musical trio LaBelle in the 1980s. She later split with bandmates Sarah Dash and Nona Hendryx to pursue a solo career.

In an interview with Billboard, the singer was asked if she ever envisioned a 65-year career. She said that three of her sisters had died before they turned 50, so she just hoped to live past that age. Luckily, she did, and she considers it a “miracle.”

“God has given me grace and I’m still here. And to say I’m still here at 80, still doing what I did when I was 20, 30 and 40 … that’s another blessing,” she said.

More than six decades in the business is no joke, and many have wondered if LaBelle would consider retiring given her age. However, she noted in the interview that retirement is not on her agenda, and she will continue her career no matter what.

“I will continue. There is no reason to stop unless you can’t do it anymore, right? And how can you retire from something you love?” she declared.

When asked where she gets her energy from, the legendary musician immediately said “God”, but she explained that she doesn’t always feel well because there are times when her body feels sore.

LaBelle also revealed that she continues to stay active, saying that she takes a dip in the pool, but clarifying that she doesn’t know how to swim. She does, however, “kick.” She also walks her dog and moves her body to do things that help her.

The singer is gearing up for her tour, which will kick off at the Tulalip Outdoor Theatre in Tulalip, WA, on July 19, 2024. She will visit cities like Biloxi, Primm, Knoxville, Memphis, Rio Rancho, and many more.

Her full tour dates and ticket details are available on Live Nation’s website.
