Will Smith begs Oscars board to reinstate him after successful music comeback: Report

In Touch Weekly sources have learned that Will Smith has pleaded with Oscar organizers to allow him to attend the Academy Awards again following his 10-year ban for slapping Chris Rock.

“Will’s defenders always remind people that, in regards to ‘The Slap,’ Will has clearly apologized, but more importantly, Will is selling tickets and attracting audiences at a time when the entire industry is struggling,” the source told the outlet.

Smith’s insistence on being reinstated to the Academy comes after his recent film, Bad Boys 4became a global hit.

“It makes a lot of sense – just ask Will’s old friend Tom Cruise. No one mentioned Scientology when Tom was filling movie theaters week after week two years ago with Top Gun: Maverick. Will is a sinner, but sinners can be forgiven and he’s running a lot of businesses right now, against all odds,” argues an insider close to the actor and singer.

According to sources, there are still many within the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the official governing body of the Academy Awards, who believe Smith should be arrested for slapping Chris Rock on national television.

“The biggest change this summer is that the fans have spoken out and they want Will to continue to be a movie star. That’s huge and Will is using that as motivation to get back in the good graces of the Academy, which has more black members than ever before,” the source explained.
