Across the character’s cinematic history, there have been several deleted Spider-Man scenes that could have drastically changed the MCU. As one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes, Spider-Man’s movie timeline has been packed with important and unforgettable moments. With Sam Raimi’s trilogy in the ‘00s, The Amazing Spider-Man duology, and Spider-Man’s introduction into the MCU, the hero has seen a number of cinematic outings that have established a Multiverse-spanning movie canon.

Spider-Man’s appearance in the MCU’s movie timeline has had wider implications, but these might have looked very different had certain deleted scenes been made canon. Throughout Spider-Man’s movie history, deleted scenes from the hero’s movies have had the potential to change everything, with even non-MCU having the potential to change the franchise’s future. With that in mind, here are 10 deleted Spider-Man scenes that could have changed the MCU.

Spider-Man: Homecoming marked Spider-Man’s first solo outing in the MCU, introducing a number of supporting characters who proved key to his story within the franchise. Among these is Ned Leeds, Peter Parker’s best friend and confidant who supports his every heroic deed. One deleted scene hints at tension in their friendship, however, and its inclusion could have had big ramifications for their respective stories.

Including a tease for an increasingly tense friendship could have seen the pair’s friendship eventually destroyed, enabling Ned Leeds to become the villainous Hobgoblin as he does in the comics. Though the scene simply showed the pair disagreeing, it added an element to their relationship that was missing from the finished film. As such, had the scene survived, it could have hugely impacted the pair’s future and laid the foundations for Ned’s villain turn.

9 Aaron Still Stuck

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Spider-Man’s presence in the movies of the MCU was firmly established with Spider-Man: Homecoming, but the movie also teased the existence of the hero’s successor. One scene in the movie confirms the existence of Miles Morales within the MCU, and another deleted moment from the movie would have doubled down upon the idea. The scene showed Aaron Davis still stuck to a car and making a phone call to his nephew to explain his lateness.

Though the scene appears relatively unremarkable, its inclusion would have cemented Miles Morales’ place in the MCU. By offering up two separate mentions of the future Spider-Man, it would have appeared that the MCU was teasing Peter Parker’s death or retirement by introducing his replacement. The message the deleted scene sends is subtle, but repeating the reference would seem to have set Miles Morales’ MCU future in stone.

8 Crashed Triskelion

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Another deleted scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming showed the crashed Triskelion in Washington DC and featured references to the wreckage still being cleared away. The scene offers very little to the movie’s overall narrative, so its inclusion wouldn’t have changed anything obvious within Homecoming’s own story. However, had the scene made it into MCU canon, it could have caused major problems for the franchise’s timeline.

The franchise’s timeline had to be revised in one of the MCU’s biggest retcons to avoid timeline issues, and the Triskelion would only have made this worse. Homecoming’s original “Eight years later” title card would have confirmed that the clean-up had been ongoing for around six years, with practically no visible progress having been made. This would have needed to be further addressed to have made sense, and so the scene’s removal ultimately saved the MCU from further explanations to avoid plot holes.

Director Joe Russo , Anthony Russo Release Date April 27, 2018 Runtime 149 minutes

Spider-Man’s role in Avengers: Infinity War was ultimately a supporting one, as he headed into space with the likes of Iron Man and Doctor Strange in an attempt to stop Thanos. The Battle on Titan proved to be a particularly bad one for Spider-Man, who was erased from existence by Thanos’ snap after the Avengers failed to defeat the Mad Titan. However, a deleted scene would have thoroughly changed Spider-Man’s Infinity War story.

In a deleted scene from the movie, Spider-Man is shown single-handedly saving the lives of the Guardians of the Galaxy, then being counseled by Doctor Strange on how to help Mantis reunite their souls with their bodies. The moment made Spider-Man seem much more capable than the finished film did and would have subtly changed his MCU story. Ultimately, having Spider-Man become such a valuable and reliable Avenger earlier in his MCU arc would have undermined his later progress.

6 A Film By Peter Parker

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2018)

As the movie to fully introduce Spider-Man to the MCU, Homecoming had a huge impact on the hero’s story within the franchise. Another deleted scene from the movie had the potential to have lasting implications, with an early scene in Homecoming depicting the hero’s actions surrounding the Clash of the Avengers in Germany during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Had the deleted scene been made canon, Spider-Man’s international fame would have been addressed long before Far From Home.

The scene shows Spider-Man making headlines in Germany after rescuing multiple people in public. Clearly depicting a level of international renown before Far From Home saw Spider-Man once again visit Europe would have had an impact on the sequel’s story, as he would have been instantly recognized. Though the deleted scene is largely comedic in nature, it could have changed the tone of Spider-Man’s MCU future.

5 America Chavez Helps Spider-Man

Director Jon Watts Release Date December 17, 2021 Runtime 148 minutes

The cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home featured many Marvel characters, but a discarded concept would have seen another join the movie’s list of characters. There was reportedly a plan at one time to include America Chavez in the film’s story, having her appear to support Spider-Man. Considering No Way Home’s Multiverse narrative, Chavez’s inclusion is logical, but it would have changed the MCU in a big way.

As America Chavez’s introduction served as the driving force behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ story, pushing her debut up would have been a big deal. Having Chavez first appear alongside Spider-Man rather than Doctor Strange could also have had other connotations, especially regarding the MCU’s Young Avengers. The overall implications for the MCU’s future are relatively minor, but No Way Home planning to debut a character much earlier is certainly a considerable change.

4 Morgan Stark’s Return

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

It was also reported that Lexi Rabe was tipped to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, reprising her role as Morgan Stark. Her appearance would likely have seen Tony Stark’s young daughter offer encouragement to Spider-Man in some way, connecting the movie’s story to Peter Parker’s late mentor, Iron Man. Had the scene made it into the finished film, it could have been a game-changer for the MCU.

Bringing Morgan Stark just two years after Endgame would have seemed like a declaration that her MCU story was far from over. In fact, it would have appeared to signal her impending hero debut as her father’s successor or a hero in her own right, as well as continue to tie Spider-Man’s story to that of the Stark family. Though the scene ultimately didn’t make it into the movie, it could have had huge ramifications for the MCU’s future.

3 Richard Parker’s Return

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

PG-13

Director Marc Webb Release Date May 2, 2014 Runtime 142 minutes

Though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was not a part of the MCU, Andrew Garfield’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home inextricably linked the movie and the franchise via the Multiverse. Garfield’s 2014 Spider-Man sequel almost had a very different ending, however, with an alternate scene showing Peter Parker meeting his supposedly deceased father at Gwen Stacy’s grave. Though the way the moment would have impacted the MCU is more minor than it appears, it still would have impacted the franchise.

Had Richard Parker appeared at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the hero’s ending would have been entirely different. Instead of becoming the lonely, vengeful hero, he explains he became during No Way Home, he would have had his father to help and guide him. Richard Parker’s survival would have changed Garfield’s Spider-Man future, meaning the alternate ending also would have changed his characterization in the MCU.

2 Venom In The Final Battle

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock inside Venom in 2018's Venom

Another reportedly abandoned concept from Spider-Man: No Way Home (per Variety) would have seen Venom take part in the movie’s final battle. As it was, the three Spider-Men faced five villains, with Eddie Brock only appearing briefly in the film’s mid-credits scene. However, had Venom featured in the battle as planned, it would have had major implications for the MCU’s past and future.

Venom battling Spider-Man in MCU canon would have created a tangible link between the villain and the hero. Tom Hardy’s beloved take on Eddie Brock making an action-packed MCU debut would have teased an exciting future for the character in the MCU, as well as firmly connecting Sony’s Spider-Man Universe to the MCU proper. Had No Way Home more completely introduced Venom to the MCU, the character’s future in the franchise would have been much clearer.

Director Sam Raimi Release Date May 3, 2002 Runtime 121 Minutes

Hugh Jackman once revealed that a planned Wolverine cameo in 2002’s Spider-Man didn’t happen due to a lost suit, but had the scene been shot and included, the MCU could look very different. Had the 2000s X-Men crossed over with Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, there would have been a shared cinematic Marvel universe predating the MCU. The buzz this would undoubtedly have caused could have altered the trajectory of Marvel’s entire cinematic future.

Had Jackman’s Wolverine appeared alongside Maguire’s Spider-Man, an alternate MCU may have been born. The franchise’s future could have looked very different with those two characters at its core, though whether for better or worse is impossible to deduce. Regardless, had the plans actually made it into the finished movie, the Spider-Man movie scene would likely have gone on to change everything about the MCU.
