Renowned musician and composer AB Quintanilla, widely known as Selena Quintanilla’s brother, was rushed to a hospital in Bolivia for emergency treatment.
After a show in Santa Cruz on Tuesday night, Quintanilla began experiencing alarming symptoms and shared them with fans on social media.
In an Instagram post, the eldest Quintanilla explained that shortly after leaving the stage during one of his scheduled concerts in Bolivia, he suddenly felt unwell and had to be taken to a medical facility.
Initially, doctors thought it was a case of dehydration. However, they later determined that the problem was more serious and involved his right lung. Fortunately, the situation was not life-threatening.
AB updates his fans on his condition
“Before the rumors spread, I want to clear things up… Last night, near the end of the show, I felt strange so I went to the emergency room. I was admitted for dehydration but later found out that there was fluid in my right lung… …I’ve had back pain for 2 weeks, I thought I pulled a muscle in my upper back… that’s not it…”, he said.
The news left Quintanilla devastated, sharing his concerns with fans and describing how scared he felt throughout this ordeal.
“I’m fine now, but honestly, I was so scared… Always remember health comes first!!!”, he added.
He ended by thanking his followers for supporting him throughout the concert and on Instagram, receiving hundreds of comments wishing him a speedy recovery.
“Get well soon AB, be careful of heights. Stumbling is not the same as falling,” one fan wrote. “Master, get well soon and continue to attack,” another commented.
The artist arrived in the South American country over the weekend for a series of shows. It is unclear whether Quintanilla will be able to complete his remaining commitments in Bolivia or whether he will need to postpone the concerts to fully recover from his condition.
What causes water in the lungs?
According to the Mayo Clinic, “pulmonary edema is a condition caused by too much fluid in the lungs. This fluid builds up in the many air sacs in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe.
In most cases, heart problems cause pulmonary edema. But fluid can build up in the lungs for other reasons. These include pneumonia, exposure to certain toxins, medications, chest wall injuries, and traveling or exercising at high altitudes.
Pulmonary edema that develops suddenly (acute pulmonary edema) is a medical emergency that requires immediate care. Pulmonary edema can sometimes be fatal. Prompt treatment can help. Treatment of pulmonary edema depends on the cause but usually includes extra oxygen and medications.”
