Alhaji Abba Kyari (born 17 March 1975), known and commonly referred to as DCP Abba Kyari, is the Commander, Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force.
He was also a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) who rose to prominence over time through his successful brave actions in fighting crime in the country as the Officer in charge of the reformed and disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for five years.
Abba Kyari is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

Early life
Abba Kyari comes from the Northeastern part of Nigeria, specifically Yobe state.
He is of Kanuris descent, from Gujba local government area of Yobe state.
He was a Muslim, born into a polygamous family and was the eldest son of thirty siblings.
His most loved siblings are Usman Kyari (younger brother), Maryam Ibrahim (younger sister) and Farouk Kyari (younger brother).
Born on March 17, 1975, Nigerian Abba Kyari grew up with his parents in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.
He grew up in a rather difficult environment with many challenges, which has significantly influenced his fearless attitude in the police force today.
Education
Abba Kyari was a beneficiary of free education sponsored by the Maiduguri government in 1978.
He completed his primary and secondary education in Maiduguri before being admitted to the University of Maiduguri.
At university, he majored in Geography and graduated in 1997.
He applied for the compulsory National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) in 1997 and was deployed to South-South Nigeria, specifically Akwa-Ibom and completed the Youth program in 1998.
Abba Kyari did not stop there. He joined the police academy in Wudil Kano State, Nigeria where he successfully graduated as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 2001.
Career
Normally, Abba Kyari would have gone straight into a career as a scientist after graduating with a degree in geography, but the young Nigerian chose to become a policeman. After graduating from the police academy in Wudil Kano state, Abba Kyari was posted to Adamawa state.
He served in local governments called LGA Song, Girei and Numan and excelled in solving crime cases.
Abba Kyari sang as he exploded and led the capture of one of the notorious kidnappers in Adamawa, popularly known as Spirit (Nagi). Spirit had terrorized Numan, a town in Adamawa, for over three years before he was successfully captured and arrested. He enjoyed this success and continued to achieve more.
To gain more experience in the field, Abba Kyari joined the Mobile Police Force (MOPOL) in 2005 and served for five years before being transferred to the Lagos Police Command in 2010.
He was then promoted to the post of Second-in-Command (2/IC) of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). He became the Operations Commander (OC) of the later disbanded SARS on 15 January 2011.
His success in policing saw him appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police in 2018. He also concurrently heads the Nigerian Intelligence Response Team.
Highlights of his police career include the successful capture of Umar Abdulmalik, the most wanted Boko-Haram commander, along with eight of his members.
Abba Kyari was also responsible for the capture of the most notorious kidnapper in Nigerian history, Henry Chibueze, also known as the Vampire, and his bosses, among many other notable arrests.
The highlight of his career was when he was accused by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of accepting bribes from the scammer Hushpuppi on July 28, 2021.

Despite being a police officer, Abba Kyari certainly knows how to party. He was spotted at the recently concluded burial of the mother of prominent businessman Obi Cubana.
There are also photos of him with DMW boss David Adeleke aka Davido.
Abba Kyari, who is most famous and noticed especially from the #Endsars protest in Lagos, has achieved a lot of prestigious awards but was not lucky enough to be involved in the Hushpuppi fraud case as alleged.
These led to his suspension from service by the Nigerian police commission.
