Fifteen years later Weekly entertainment posted a speculative and strangely invasive cover story about Adam Lambert’s sexuality, and 15 years after the American Idol alum went off-script at the American Music Awards, kissing someone man on stage and nearly canceled, the glam-pop powerhouse is writing heavily and rewriting its own script. What a difference a decade and a half has made.

On Friday, Lambert kicked off City of West Hollywood’s Pride weekend in the wildest and steamiest style, performing on the main stage of the OUTLOUD festival and live debuting her sexy, sweaty and certainly not his subtlety, “Lube”. Lambert also performs the similarly catchy house song “Wet Dream” and a hot, unreleased banger called “C–ty” (feel free to fill in the blanks of the song’s title That’s NSFW). All three songs will appear on Lambert’s upcoming Looking for Joy EP, AFTER.

Just say, “Lube,” with energetic lyrics like “Slip in the room/Slip right on you” and “Gonna make you up,” and “Wet Dream,” with its pre-chorus, “In the Zone, here we go, silicone/Now you know how a gay man takes it home,” probably scared ABC censors into rushing to the seven-second delay button during the 2009 AMAs But as Lambert asserted in a pre-Pride press release, these tracks represent “a new chapter in my artistry, where I refuse to edit or filter myself.”

Lambert explains further: “Create AFTER it was a liberating experience when I chose to create an unapologetically queer and sex-positive house music EP. I host many house parties and my aim is to create a soundtrack inspired by wild nights, giving voice to the hedonistic desires and exploits of our community. Feeling more confident than ever, I wanted to be unashamedly real and authentic with my listeners. AFTER Aims to get you moving, sweating, imagining and connecting!”

“Lube” was co-written with LGBTQ+ pop singer Vincint (who will perform Sunday at OUTLOUD and recently released the rousing duet “Another Lover” with Lambert) and singer-songwriter Parson James . “Wet Dream” is a collaboration between Sarah Hudson (Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, 5 Seconds of Summer, Santigold), Ferras (Dua Lipa, Ricky Martin, Idina Menzel, Luis Fonsi, Katy Perry) and Jhart (Camila Cabello, Troye Siva, Sabrina Carpenter, Charlie Puth, Keith Urban, Maneskin, Cher). Lambert’s AFTER The EP will be released to warm up everyone’s summer on July 19.
