Early life and education
Ademola Adeleke was born on 13 May 1960 in Enugu State, Nigeria, to the late Chief Ayoola Adeleke and Esther Adeleke. He was born in Osun State, Nigeria.
His parents are Esther Adeleke (mother), a devout Igbo Christian, and the late Chief Ayoola Adeleke (father), a Muslim. His brothers are Adedeji Adeleke, Davido’s father, and the late Isiaka Adeleke.
It seems politics runs in the blood of the Adelekes family as his late father, Ayoola Adeleke, was a politician, senator during the second republic and founder of the now defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).
Additionally, Ademola Adeleke’s father was the Balogun of Ede Land in Osun State when he was alive. He represented the Osun-west senatorial constituency of Nigeria until June 2019. Ede local government area is his family’s ancestral home.
Ademola Adeleke attended Nawarudeen Primary School in Ikire after starting his primary education at Methodist Primary School in Surulere, Lagos State. He continued his education at Ede Islamic Grammar School, Ede, before moving to the United States to live with his two older brothers.
He said he studied political science and criminal justice at Jacksonville State University in Alabama, USA.
However, Ademola Adeleke’s political opponents dug into his history during and after the 2018 Osun State Governorship election. They accused him of using questionable methods to obtain his degree from the United States. He therefore returned to the United States and enrolled at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, where he graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
Career
Successful businessman and administrator Ademola Adeleke was the group CEO of Pacific Holdings Limited from 2001 to 2016. His brother owned Pacific Holdings Limited at the time.
Ademola Adeleke worked as a service contractor for Quicksilver Courier Company in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1985 to 1988. He served as vice president of Origin International LLC, an American company that produces flavors and fragrances, from 1990 to 1994.
Although the death was gruesome, Ademola Adeleke saw it as a sign of political things to come. The leader of the empire, Isiaka Adeleke, passed away on April 23, 2017. Before that, Ademola Adeleke was a little-known figure in politics. There is no doubt that the late Isiaka Adeleke had a great career and left a proud legacy. He was the first executive governor of Osun State.
His life was a shining example of virtue and loyalty to his country. None of us can dispute his role as a great ambassador for his country on the world stage. Ademola Adeleke replaced Isiaka Adeleke in the Senate seat as per the constitution when Osun West Senatorial District and other key figures of the party agreed to return Adeleke’s ticket to the kingdom.
Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the by-election was a surprise. He was elected by nine of the ten local governments in the senatorial district and received a total of 97,280 votes. He credited his late brother for his victory.
Ademola Adeleke contested in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary for the governorship of Osun State on 22 September 2018, against Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC and Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
After declaring the election inconclusive, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) set a new election date of 27 September 2018. APC candidate Adegboyega Oyetola won the second round. Ademola Adeleke disputed the result, calling the election a “coup”. A Court declared Adeleke the winner of the election on 22 March 2019.
However, Adegboyega Oyetola went to the Court of Appeal to uphold his victory. In the main judgment delivered on May 9, 2019, in Abuja, Justice Hannatu Sankey ruled in favour of Adegboyega Oyetola, after quashing all the Court proceedings due to “faulty composition”.
However, Ademola Adeleke, who was not satisfied and thought he had been robbed, went to the Supreme Court; unfortunately the high court confirmed the decision made by the Court of Appeal on Friday, July 5, 2019.
However, his party (PDP) allowed Ademola Adeleke, the resilient candidate, to contest in the party’s primary election ahead of the July 16, 2022, Osun State Governorship election alongside Akin Ogunbiyi and four other candidates.
Ademola Adeleke won the PDP primary held in Osogbo on March 8, 2022 and contested the 22nd governorship race in Osun. He was declared the winner of the Osun State Governorship election by INEC on October 17, 2022.
