Early life and education
Alan Tudge, now 52, was born on 24 February 1971 in Pakenham, Victoria, Australia.
His mother raised him on a small farm near Pakenham after his parents separated when he was about six years old.
Tudge attended a local primary school and completed his secondary education at Haileybury, Melbourne, graduating in 1988.
He continued his education at the University of Melbourne, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours).
Tudge’s academic achievements extended to his presidency of the Melbourne University Students’ Union, where he made history as the first non-leftist president in many years. He then went on to earn an MBA from Harvard University.
Personal life
In his personal life, Alan Tudge was previously married to Teri Etchells and has three children.
However, their 20-year relationship ended in 2017 due to Tudge’s affair. In November 2020, Tudge’s former press secretary Rachelle Miller publicly revealed their relationship, leading to the end of Tudge’s marriage.
Tudge admitted to the relationship on Facebook, and Miller later accused Tudge of bullying and intimidating her during their time working together.
Career
Alan Tudge’s career began as a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) from 1996 to 2001.
During his time at BCG, he worked in Melbourne and New York, gaining valuable experience and completing an MBA at Harvard University.
He also served as deputy director at the Cape York Institute, an Indigenous organisation, from 2006 to 2009. Tudge continued to be involved in policy and education advice, co-founding Teach For Australia and running his own policy consultancy before entering politics.

Tudge’s political career began in 2010 when he was elected as a Liberal Party member of the House of Representatives, representing the Victorian seat of Aston.
He quickly rose through the ranks and became parliamentary secretary after the 2013 election.
From 2016 to 2022, he served as a government minister under Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison, holding various positions such as Minister for Human Services, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Minister for Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure, and Minister for Education and Youth.
