Early life and education

Alexis Bledel was born on September 16, 1981, in Houston, Texas. She was raised by her parents, Martin Bledel and Nanette (née Dozier), who worked as flight attendants and gift handlers. Eric is her younger brother.

Her father is from Argentina and her mother was born in Phoenix, Arizona. When she was eight, her family returned to Mexico. After high school, Bledel attended Lutheran and Baptist schools until she received a diploma from the Catholic St. Agnes Academy in Houston in 1999. Bledel pursued her artistic passion by studying film at New York University.

Alexis Bledel’s career began on the WB comedy series Gilmore Girls. Bledel made her television debut in 2000 opposite Lauren Graham. The show premiered on October 5, 2000, and ran for seven seasons until May 15, 2007. She plays Rory Gilmore, the daughter of single mom Lorelai Gilmore (Graham).

Rory was a high school student at an elite private college before attending Yale University, where she worked as an editor for the Yale Daily News, among other positions. She also lived with her mother in a small town in Connecticut.

On April 26, 2009, Bledel made his Tribeca Film Festival debut in the romantic comedy Good People, starring opposite Scott Porter and Bryan Greenberg. The film centers on Tommy, a Wall Street investment broker played by Porter, whose life is turned upside down when he assists Daniel, a rookie broker played by Greenberg.
