Early life
Alexandra Dawn, also known as Ali Wong, was born in San Francisco, California. She is the youngest of four siblings. Her mother, Tam, also known as Tammy Wong, immigrated to the United States from Central Vietnam in 1960.
Wong graduated from the University of San Francisco in 2000 and was Student Body President. She applied to UCLA to major in Asian American studies and discovered her passion for performing as a member of the university’s LCC Theater Company.
The theater company is known as the largest and oldest Asian American college theater company in the country. During the summer, she worked at The Liar of the Golden Bear, a summer camp for UC Berkeley alumni families, and stayed in Hanoi for her third year.
