Mariah Carey is grieving the deaths of her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison.
Sharing the heartbreaking news with People magazine on Monday, Carey said, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my mother over the weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life the same day.”
“I feel so lucky to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away,” the singer added. “I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for privacy during this impossible time.”
The exact cause of death of Patricia, 87, and Alison, 63, has not been revealed.
But new information about Carey’s sister’s final weeks of life has come to light.
A close friend told The US Sun that Alison had entered a nursing home shortly before her death.
Dave Baker, who said he cared for Carey’s sister in the final weeks of her life, revealed that his friend had been struggling with health issues related to organ function. Music Times could not independently verify this information.
“Alison was cared for at home for the last three weeks of her life,” Barker said, adding that she had “issues with her internal organs”.
Barker shared similar information with The Times Union.
“Underneath her tough exterior, Alison was a very intelligent, warm and sensitive person. I have known her for nine years and as her friend and in recent months her carer, I will miss her very much,” he told the US Sun.

In her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” the music superstar opened up about her complicated relationship with her family, especially her mother Patricia and siblings Alison and Morgan.
Carey described her relationship with Patricia as a complex mixture of emotions, including “a thorny thread of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment”.
After many trials and tribulations, the couple eventually found common ground and reconciled. Patricia’s importance in Carey’s life was so profound that she deserved a heartfelt tribute in her memoir.
On the other hand, the “Obsessed” hit singer found it impossible to mend her relationship with Alison.
In her book, Carey detailed her decision to distance herself from her sister, citing concerns about her emotional and physical safety.
She also claimed that accusations of her siblings “lying” to the media and their long history of attacking her were the main reasons she cut ties with them.
