Early Life & Education
Alphonso Davies, now 23 years old, was born on November 2, 2000 in Buduburam, a refugee camp in Ghana. He is the fourth child among his six siblings.
His parents, Debeah and Victoria Davies, originally lived in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. However, they were forced to flee during the Second Liberian Civil War, displacing hundreds of thousands of Liberians. In 2005, the Davies family immigrated to Canada, eventually settling in Edmonton.
At age 14, Davies made the momentous decision to move to Vancouver on his own. He joined the Whitecaps FC Residency program, where he was able to further develop his soccer skills.
As part of the program, he attended Burnaby Central High School. In June 2017, he received Canadian citizenship, moving from a Liberian citizen to a proud Canadian citizen.
Personal life
In September 2017, Davies was in a relationship with fellow Canadian Jordyn Huitema. Huitema is a striker for Paris Saint-Germain and the Canadian women’s national team.
In September 2019, Davies was fined 20,000 euros for being late to Bayern’s training session after visiting Huitema in Paris.
By June 2020, the French press reported that Davies wanted Huitema to sign with Bayern’s women’s team.
On May 22, 2022, Davies announced on social media that he and Huitema had ended their relationship.
Career
Davies’ soccer journey began when he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency program in 2015 at the age of 14.
He showed off his talent and quickly attracted the attention of the club. In 2016, he made his professional debut with Whitecaps FC 2, the club’s USL team.
Davies impressed everyone by becoming the youngest player to sign a USL contract at just 15 years and 3 months old.
He scored his first professional goal in May 2016, setting a record as the youngest goal scorer in USL history.
His exceptional performances earned him a spot on the Vancouver Whitecaps FC first team roster. Davies made his MLS debut in July 2016, becoming the second youngest player in the league.
