Álvaro Morte was born on February 23, 1975 in Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain, but his family soon moved to Bujarrans, Córdoba. He initially studied Communications Engineering, then Theatre Arts, graduating in 1999 from the Higher School of Theatre Arts in Córdoba.

He also did postgraduate studies at the University of Tampere before returning to Madrid.

Morte began his acting career with a supporting role in the Spanish TV series Hospital Central. He then had his first lead role in the 2007-2008 TV series Planta 25, playing the role of driver Rey. In 2014, he joined the cast of the long-running TV series The Secret of the Old Bridge, playing the role of small town doctor Lucas Molina.

Mott’s breakthrough came with his role as “El Profesor” (Sergio Marquina) in the TV series La Hera de Papel. He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the meticulous criminal mastermind. The series was a huge success, becoming the highest-rated non-English TV series.

Following Heist, Mort had his first lead role in the Netflix feature film Mirage (2018). In 2019, he began filming the TV series On the Waterfront, in which he plays Oscar, a man leading a double life with two women. He also announced that he will be starring in the Amazon series The Wheel of Time, based on the epic fantasy novel. He will reportedly play the role of Logan, and filming will begin in December 2019.
