Early life and education
Alyssa Farah Griffin, now 34, was born on June 15, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. Her father, Joseph Farah, is a journalist of Syrian and Lebanese descent.
He is known for his work at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner and as the founder of the far-right website WorldNetDaily.
Her mother, Judy, is a journalist based in Sacramento.
Griffin grew up surrounded by right-wing media, influenced by her father’s work. She attended Bella Vista High School, where she excelled academically and athletically, serving as captain of the girls’ soccer team.
She also pursued martial arts and achieved a black belt.

Career
Griffin’s political career began with her involvement with her father’s far-right website, WorldNetDaily, where she wrote and served as a special correspondent in Washington.
She then worked as a communications intern for Congressman Tom McClintock and as an associate producer on The Laura Ingraham Show.
During the 2012 presidential election, Griffin served as a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee on College Campuses, where she traveled the country to discuss youth voting rights.
She went on to work as Press Secretary for Congressman Mark Meadows and later became Communications Director for the Freedom Caucus in the United States House of Representatives.
In September 2017, Griffin was appointed Special Assistant to the President and Press Secretary to Vice President Mike Pence.
She accompanied Pence on numerous domestic and international trips and represented the United States at major international conferences.
In September 2019, Griffin assumed a new role as Press Secretary for the United States Department of Defense, becoming the youngest press secretary in Pentagon history.
She also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and Director of Media Relations.
In April 2020, Griffin joined the White House Office of Strategic Communications as Director of the White House. She played a key role in shaping the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, she resigned in December 2020 and plans to set up a consulting firm focusing on business, politics and defense.
