‘American Idol’ Katy Perry replacement judge Carrie Underwood considers adoption after multiple miscarriages

Carrie Underwood and husband Mike Fisher are reportedly looking into adoption to expand their family following multiple miscarriages.

On Sunday, a source confirmed that the “Before He Cheats” hitmaker, 41, is apparently eager to have a third child with her retired NFL player husband, 44, and they are considering adoption options.

“Carrie lost three babies during her pregnancies before having Jacob, and she thought it was God’s plan for her,” the insider exclusively shared with Life & Style magazine.

“But Mike is eager to add to the family, so they will be bringing another child home.”

Underwood and Fisher are already parents to sons Isaiah, 9, and Jacob, 5. Before welcoming her second child, the singer revealed in a short documentary called “Mike and Carrie: God and Country” that she suffered multiple painful miscarriages.

“It sounds wrong when you say it like that, but it’s one of those terrible things that happens to other people. You know what I mean? It’s like a lot of things in the world, it’s not something you ever imagine yourself having to deal with,” Underwood said in a documentary about the ordeal, according to ABC News.

These days, Underwood is pretty busy with her Las Vegas residency, which ends in October. She was also announced as a replacement judge for Katy Perry on “American Idol,” the reality singing competition she won in Season 4 and helped launch her singing career.

But before taking on the role of judge on the show, Carrie is said to be taking a break to spend time on the adoption process with her husband.

“They’ve met with a lawyer about it. And their sons are thrilled at the thought of adding a little brother or sister to the family,” a friend of the Nashville singer told Life & Style.

According to a friend of the singer, this family expansion plan is said to be part of the reason why Mike has not yet accepted the coaching offer.

“Mike had a lot of coaching offers, and that appealed to him. But he felt his place was with his family — and not being away from home eight months of the year during hockey season,” the friend said.

Meanwhile, an “American Idol” executive revealed why they chose Underwood to replace Perry earlier this month via Entertainment Tonight.

“It’s been 20 years since she auditioned in St. Louis for ‘American Idol,’ and having the first ‘Idol’ contestant on the judging panel is always exciting for me,” executive producer and host Megan Wolflick said of the Grammy-winning artist.

“She’s our queen, she’s the icon of ‘American Idol,’” Wolflick added.

Underwood will join Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as judges when “American Idol” returns for Season 23.
