Larissa de Macedo Machado (born March 30, 1993) is a talented Brazilian singer, songwriter and television host known as Anita. She achieved commercial success nationwide in 2012 with her professional debut single “Meiga e Abusada”, following which she signed a record deal with Warner Music Brazil in January 2013. She rose to fame in 2013 with the release of her single “Show das Poderosas”.

Her second studio album, Ritmo Perfeito (2014), also achieved minor commercial success in Brazil and was released on the same day as her debut live album, Meu Lugar. In 2015, she released her third studio album, Bang, which went platinum and spawned four successful singles: “Deixa Ele Sofrer”, “Essa Mina é Louca”, “Cravo e Canela” and “Cravo e Canela”. The album played a major role in establishing her near-dominance on the Brazilian music charts.
Between 2016 and 2018, Anitta collaborated with international artists including Nile Rodgers, Maluma, Iggy Azalea, Major Lazer, Alesso and J Balvin. In 2017, Anitta released her first Spanish-language single, “Paradinha,” and has since branched out into Spanish-language Latin pop and reggaeton music.
That same year, her collaboration with Colombian singer J Balvin, Downtown, became her breakthrough in various Spanish-speaking markets. In 2019, she collaborated with Madonna, Sofia Reyes, Rita Ora, Luis Fonsi, Ozuna and the Black Eyed Peas. Kisses (2019), her fourth trilingual studio visual album, received critical acclaim and earned her a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Urban Music Album.
Three months later, Anita’s Spanish-language single “Envolver”, from her fifth studio album Versions of Me (2022), topped the Spotify Global Top 50 chart, making Anita the first Brazilian and Latin American artist to have a solo song on the chart. early life
Anita was born and raised in the Honorio Gurguer neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, one of the places with the lowest human development index in the city; she is the youngest daughter of Miriam Macedo and Mauro Machado. Her other siblings are Felipe Terra and Renan Machado.
She grew up in a poor family, her parents divorced and her mother received custody. Her singing career began at the age of eight, when, at the request of her grandparents, Anita joined the choir of St. Lucia Parish in her community. She began taking English lessons at the age of 11 and had already shown an interest in pursuing an academic career and possessed extraordinary abilities.
After graduating from one of the country’s most prestigious public schools, the Pedro II School, Anita completed a technical course in public administration during high school. Her mother’s teacher later offered her free dance lessons. Her brother, Renan Machado, currently serves as one of her song producers and oversees her career.
Anitta took her stage name from the character Anita from the book Presença de Anita, which was adapted into a TV series by Rede Globo in 2001. A year later, she decided to pursue a career in the arts. That same year, she received the Best Newcomer Award from the Associaço Paulista de Criticos de Arte, Brazil’s leading cultural institution.

Anita’s professional singing career began by chance in 2010 when she was introduced to Rio-based funk producer Renato Azevedo (aka Batutinha). He had seen some of her home videos on YouTube and invited her to record some demo recordings for him. After approval, she was nominated to sign with the independent professional funk label Furaco 2000.
Later, Anita released her first single “Eu Vou Ficar”, which was played like crazy on local radio stations in Rio de Janeiro and was included in the series “Armagedom”, which also invited musicians from other music circles. On May 16, 2012, she made her television debut in SBT’s “Cante se Puder”, singing the single “Extravasa”, recorded in a beer glass by axé music singer Claudia Leitte. In June 2012, she chose not to renew her contract with Furaco 2000 and signed with the K2L Entertainment office.
In January 2013, Anita signed a major record contract with Warner Music Group and released the single “Meiga e Abusada”. The song was included in the soundtrack of the TV series “Amor à Vida” and became one of the most popular songs on Brazilian radio in early 2013. The music video for the song was shot in Las Vegas and directed by American Blake Farber. The song was chosen as the lead single from her debut album, which was released in June 2013.
On October 18, 2021, Anitta will appear on the YouTube Originals show Dear Earth, which aims to raise awareness about global climate change, along with Billie Eilish, BLACKPINK, Barack Obama, Pope Francis, Jaden Smith and others. The singer performed “Girl from Rio”, which she scored a huge success. In September, Anitta served as a mentor with Charli XCX on Billboard NXT, a singing competition hosted by Billboard and Samsung Galaxy.

On November 14, Anita made a surprise appearance at the MTV Europe Music Awards, chatting with host Saweetie. She will open the Latin Grammy Awards with Gloria Estefan and Carlinhos Brown in November 2021. In November, she attended the amfAR charity dinner with Jeremy Scott, wearing Moschino.
Anita was one of the guests at actor Sean Penn’s Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) charity event, where she sang some songs and auctioned off her experience performing during the Brazilian Carnival, with a winning bid of $110,000.
