early life

Anneliese van der Pol was born in Naaldwijk, a small town in the province of South Holland, the Netherlands.

She was a descendant of Dutchman Willem van der Pol, director of the prestigious California State University, Fullerton Physical Plant.

Her mother, Dyan Ross, is an American from Brooklyn, New York.

Anneliese van der Pol’s mother named her after Anne Frank when she visited the house where Frank was hiding. Her mother was Jewish.

At 15, Anneliese van der Pol became the youngest actress in theatre history to play a role in a professional production. She then played Laurey in the musical Oklahoma! in Austin, Texas from 2000 to 2001.

Her role earned her an Austin Critics Circle Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical and a B. Aiden Payne Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.
