Early Life & Education

Anshu Jain, now 60 years old, was born on January 7, 1963 in Jaipur, India, to parents Ambu Jain and Shashi Jain.

Raised a Jain and from a family of civil servants, he grew up in a household that instilled discipline and the value of hard work.

Jain’s early years were spent in New Delhi, where he studied at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road.

Jain pursued his higher education at the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce of Delhi University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1983.

Eager to expand his horizons, he moved to the United States at age 19 to continue his studies.

In 1985, Jain earned an MBA in Finance from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Jain’s career began on Wall Street after he completed his MBA. He started as a derivatives research analyst at Kidder, Peabody & Co.

In 1988, he joined Merrill Lynch and spent seven years founding and running the global hedge fund insurance group.

During this time, he became acquainted with Edson Mitchell, an influential investment banker who became Jain’s advisor.

In 1995, Jain followed Mitchell to Deutsche Bank, where they were tasked with establishing a world-class investment banking division in London.

Initially, Jain led a team marketing fixed income derivatives to large investors and hedge funds. Over the years, he held various leadership roles within Deutsche Bank, including head of global capital markets, sales and fixed income.

Jain’s tenure as co-CEO of Deutsche Bank began in June 2012 when he was appointed alongside Jürgen Fitschen.
