Early life and education
Anderson was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 15, 1970. His mother, Doris Hancox, dreamed of becoming an actress, and his stepfather, Sterling Bowman, was from Little Rock, Arkansas.
Sterling initially moved to Los Angeles to work in the steel mill industry but later founded a successful chain of three clothing stores. Anthony also has a half-brother named Derrick Bowman.
Tragically, his stepfather passed away in 2002. As a child, Anthony was affectionately called “Tugga” due to his inability to pronounce “sugar.”
Anderson’s educational journey took him to Howard University in the late 1980s, where he attended before leaving without graduating to pursue a career in comedy.
Career
Anderson began his professional journey in the early 1990s by appearing as a guest actor on popular television series, including Ally McBeal, NYPD Blue, The Wayans Bros and In the House.
However, it was not until 1996 that he achieved his breakthrough when he took on his first leading role as Teddy Broadis in the teen sitcom Hang Time, broadcast on NBC. Anderson’s role as Teddy lasted for two seasons, showcasing his talent and establishing him as a notable figure in the industry.
During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Anderson’s presence in the film industry expanded as he took on roles in several films, such as Big Momma’s House (2000), Me, Myself & Irene (2000) and Barbershop (2002). Alvina Anderson and the subject of this information have been happily married since September 1999. During their marriage, they welcomed two beautiful children into the world: a son named Nathan and a daughter named Kyra.
