Doris Hancox and Sterling Bowman were born to Anderson on August 15, 1970. His mother, Doris Hancox, was a telephone operator and an actress best known for The Truth (2010). His stepfather, Sterling Bowman, was an Arkansas native who came to Los Angeles to work in the steel industry before founding a chain of three clothing stores. Anthony graduated from Hollywood High School, LACHSA, and Howard University.
