Early life
Doris Hancox and Sterling Bowman were born to Anderson on August 15, 1970. His mother, Doris Hancox, was a telephone operator and an actress best known for The Truth (2010). His stepfather, Sterling Bowman, was an Arkansas native who came to Los Angeles to work in the steel industry before founding a chain of three clothing stores. Anthony graduated from Hollywood High School, LACHSA, and Howard University.
Career
Anderson debuted as a stand-up comedian, but he failed miserably on his first try. Guy Torry, another comedian, urged him to continue performing. Anderson and Guy starred together in the Eddie Murphy film “Life.”
Anderson has appeared and also served as an executive producer on ABC’s “Black-ish,” where he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his work.

On the set of Hustle & Flow, Anderson allegedly rapped an extra in her 20s in a trailer. Witnesses reported seeing the alleged victim crying and seeing her run from the trailer in a state of undress.
The charges were dropped in 2004 after a judge determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution. Anderson was charged with sexual assault in 2004 by another woman who accused Anderson of assaulting her.
It was in his dressing room during the production of All About the Andersons after making sexually explicit statements publicly. Due to lack of evidence, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office decided not to prosecute Anderson.
