The ending reveals that Gokce’s husband Kenan died after a conflict between the manuscript’s author Duigu and a man named Metin. The incident left Gokce shaken and struggling to cope with the consequences.

Throughout the film, there are hints that events may have been manipulated by previously introduced author Tana Alpa. Arpa’s new book, titled “Ashes,” bears striking resemblance to Gokce’s experiences, sparking speculation that he was involved in orchestrating the events.

The final scene depicts Gokce and her son standing on a train platform, suggesting the possibility of suicide. However, the ending is left open to interpretation, leaving viewers to question whether Gokce’s fate is real or part of Alpa’s fictional narrative.

When Gokce hires Metin to make mirrors, her attraction to him grows, providing an opportunity for their relationship to develop. As Gokce grew closer to Metin, her relationship with Kenan suffered, and she neglected her responsibilities as a wife and mother.

Meanwhile, Kennan became increasingly suspicious of Gokce’s actions. When Gokce reaches the end of the manuscript, which reveals that “M” murdered the author, tensions between Gokce and Kennan escalate. Ashes movie review

With “Ashes,” director Tepe Goz and screenwriter Isik aimed for a clever psychosexual thriller, similar to Park Chan-wook’s “Decided to Leave.” The story follows a familiar theme: a neglected spouse seeking excitement outside of the marriage due to emotional and sexual dissatisfaction.

However, the film struggles to strike a balance between love and lust, often relying on cliches and repetitive music to convey romance. The title couple, played by Alperen Duymaz and Funda Eryigit, lack organic chemistry, making their relationship feel forced and predictable.

While their passionate scenes display natural chemistry, the overall portrayal of their romance falls flat. When the film transitions into thriller territory, it fails to deliver impactful twists and turns, leaving the audience underwhelmed.

Despite these shortcomings, Mohamed Gonsoul still delivers a solid performance as the “other” factor in the story. Overall, Ashes attempts to explore complex themes but falls short by its inability to effectively balance romance and suspense.
