Atlanta Gives Late Rapper His Own Memorial Day and More Emotional Moments

Rich Homie Quan was laid to rest in South Fulton County, Atlanta on Tuesday.

Quan’s siblings spoke at his funeral, speaking of the profound memories they had with him, how much they loved him and how he had positively influenced their lives.

‘ENSTARZ’ reported that his funeral will be open to the public, according to the rapper’s father, Corey Lamar. At the funeral, his father called Quan “his best friend. When I was a kid, I promised myself and God that the one question my kids would never ask was who my father was, because I had that question when I was a kid.”

“I used to tell people I live day by day. Now I live second by second. I was taught as a child, men don’t cry, it’s a sign of weakness or you’re weak. But as I grew up, I realized that crying is a sign of pain, and God knows, I’m in pain,” he continued as he spoke from the podium. “God’s grace and mercy is keeping us here.”

“I feel like I’m broken into a million pieces… but I know Someone will put me back together, piece by piece, over time,” Corey said.

The celebration was held at World Changers Church International.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that multiple roads were closed for the “hundreds of people” expected to attend. Roads were closed from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for the memorial service, and are expected to close again so visitors can leave.

In an earlier Instagram clip, the grieving father said in a phone call that the purpose of the public funeral was for him to allow fans to “pay their respects” to Quan, saying he wanted it to be “a momentous occasion”.

“Oh my gosh, if there were no fans, it wouldn’t make any sense. I knew it would be remiss not to let some of the people he touched come and see, or come to the funeral to pay their respects to my son. So that’s why I said I wanted it to be a big event,” he said, regarding his decision to go public.

Rich Homie Quan’s girlfriend — whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar — claims he was lying on the couch in the morning and not moving when she returned from taking her son to school. She also claims she did not feel a heartbeat and could not feel him breathing during the 911 call.

When he rolled over, the “Type of Way” artist began foaming at the mouth. He died at an Atlanta hospital on September 5 before an autopsy could be performed the following day.

No further details on the autopsy results are available at this time.

He is 33 years old.

Following ’11 Alive,’ the Atlanta City Council declared September 17 as ‘Rich Homie Quan Memorial Day.’
