Profession
In 2010, Austin Mahone began posting videos regularly on YouTube, eventually gaining a following with several funny skits and skillful song covers. The turning point in his career was when he covered the very popular song “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber. This song brought him to the spotlight.
Before signing a record deal, Austin Mahone was hailed by some as the next Justin Bieber, and he soared to No. 38 on the Billboard Social 50, a chart that ranks artists by their popularity on social networks. But with soaring popularity came problems. Austin Mahone was forced to drop out of school because his fame greatly limited his ability to continue his education. His mother eventually quit her career as a mortgage banker to balance homeschooling her children and managing his career.
Before he reached the pinnacle of his career, Austin Mahone experienced the ultimate fan encounter when he ran into his idol, Taylor Swift, at a coffee shop in Nashville. Taylor encouraged him to keep working hard and never give up on his dreams. A year later, in 2013, the young star was one of the opening acts for Taylor Swift’s Red Tour! If that doesn’t describe a meteoric rise, we don’t know what does!
Unlike many other Internet music stars, Austin Mahone didn’t stop at YouTube; it was just the beginning of something bigger. In late 2011, he began playing local shows and concerts, with a loyal group of fans known as “Mahomies” cheering him on at every packed venue.
Austin Mahone’s debut single “11:11” peaked at #19 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart in 2012 after being released on iTunes. As his fan base continued to grow and he amassed millions of followers across all social media platforms, record labels began to contact him.
In mid-2012, Austin Mahone signed with Chase/Universal Republic Records, and his second song, “Say Somethin,” became a single. The third year was about building popularity, while the first two years were about gradually reaching the peak of his career, so the best is yet to come.
The attacks continued after that. That same year, Austin Mahone won the MTV Video Music Award for Artist to Watch for his famous song “What About Love”. In October 2013, he launched the MTV Artist to Watch Tour, his first headlining tour ever.
Secrets is Austin Mahone’s second EP which reached an incredible #5 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in May 2014. After the success of his recent hit “Dirty Work”, Austin Mahone gifted his fans with a mixtape for Christmas, featuring collaborations with Jump Smokers and Pia Mia.
