Nora Lum (born June 2, 1988), better known by her stage name Awkwafina, is a well-known Asian-American actress, television personality, and experienced rapper.

early life

Awkwafina was born Nora Lum on June 2, 1988 in Stony Brook, New York City.

She is of Asian descent and holds American nationality.

Her father, Wally Lum, is Chinese, and her mother, Tia Lum, is Korean, a painter who immigrated to the United States from South Korea in 1972.

Sadly, Awkwafina’s mother has passed away.

When she was four years old, her mother died of terrible pulmonary hypertension.

Awkwafina was raised by her father and grandparents in the small town of Forest Hills, Queensland.

Her great-grandfather was a Chinese immigrant who opened Lum’s, a Cantonese restaurant in Flushing, Queens, in the 1940s.

Awkwafina appeared in six episodes of Girls’ Rules Seasons 3 and 4. From 2015 to 2017, she hosted the short-form talk show web series Tawk for digital production company Astronauts Wanted.

Then in 2016, she played the supporting role of Christine in the film Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, where she is a member of Kappa Nu.

In 2018, Awkwafina played Rebecca in the independent comedy Dude. She also played a major role in Ocean’s 8 and played Wu Jinyan in the film Crazy Rich Asians.

She then hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live on October 6, 2018, becoming the second female East Asian American entertainer to host the show.
