Larian Studios has publicly stated that the average playthrough time for the game could be as high as 100 hours. That number of hours easily adds up when you factor in the game’s easily missed missions and extraordinary replay value.
Despite the game’s impressive achievements, its broad nature may present a challenge for some players. The sheer volume of content can be overwhelming and mentally draining, and can make gaming feel like an endless task, leading to fatigue during long gaming sessions.
Additionally, real-life practical limitations and the existence of other versions of the game may prevent some players from fully immersing themselves in Baldur’s Gate 3, leaving them with a feeling of missing out on other gaming experiences.
However, Baldur’s Gate 3 is different from other large open-world games that focus on quantity over quality. The consensus among gamers is that almost everything in the game is well-crafted and has real value, ensuring players don’t run into the usual problems of repetitive or uninspired content.
Additionally, the game’s scalable nature gives players a great deal of freedom to shape their own adventures, although some players may be critical of certain choices and their consequences.
The length and scale of the game in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a mixed blessing. While it offers an unparalleled RPG experience for those willing to fully immerse themselves in it, it can be a daunting and time-consuming journey for others with limited time or competing gaming priorities.
Still, for those who have a deep affection for the game, its broad nature is one of its most notable features.

The storyline of Baldur’s Gate III unfolds in 1492 DR, more than a century after the events of Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and Baldur’s Gate: The Fall of Avernus. shortly after the incident.
The game introduces a branching plot structure, with key story elements remaining relatively consistent regardless of the player’s choices, but there are significant changes in detail, particularly with regard to the numerous side missions.
The story begins with the player character waking up in an illithid ship known as the Nautilus. They soon find themselves implanted with illithid tadpoles, parasitic creatures that can enslave individuals and transform them into mind flayers. Before the transformation could be completed, however, the ship came under attack by Githyanki warriors and their red dragons.
In the chaos, the protagonist is freed and manages to crash the ship back into Faerûn. As they search for a way to remove the Tadpole, they encounter other survivors from the wreck, each with their own Tadpole implanted: Raizel, a Githyanki warrior; Shadowheart, a Sharan priest; Asth Tarion, a high elf vampire; Gael, a human wizard; Will, a human sorcerer; and Kalach, a tiefling barbarian.
The main focus of the first act revolves around potential treatments for tadpole infections. Various characters and entities, including the malevolent sorceress Ethel, the archdruid Halsin, a goblin priestess serving the nascent “god” known as the Absolute, and the famed bard Volo. Attempts to provide treatment were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the fate of the Emerald Forest comes into focus, as local druids and refugees from the town of Elturel confront the goblin hordes of the nearby desecrated temple of Selunite. It turns out that the mysterious prism possessed by the Shadowheart helps protect the party from psychic powers as they approach the temple.

Act Two shifts the focus to Moonrise Tower and the surrounding lands, once peaceful territory under the stewardship of House Thom. The land is now shrouded in an unnatural, sentient darkness that can only be penetrated through magical means.
The Last Light is a tavern run by a group of tiefling refugees, Firefist conscripts, and Harpers, and serves as the only refuge. Isabelle, the resurrected daughter of General Catheric Thom, serves as the tavern’s protector and uncovers the curse that plagues the land, exacerbated by her father’s abandonment of Suellen. The protagonist goes deep into the Moonrise Tower to find the mysterious artifact “Night Song”.
These towers house a massive temple to Shar, which leads to Shar’s personal realm of the Shadowlands, where Nightsong is revealed to be an imprisoned Aasimar named Lady Arryn, who is the moon goddess Su. Lun’s daughter.
Catheric uses her as his engine of immortality and as a ritual component of Shar’s followers. Players can choose to spare or kill Lady Irene, which will profoundly affect the progress of the plot.
The third act unfolds in Baldur’s Gate and the outskirts of Rivington, focusing on how the remaining antagonists manipulate the protagonists against each other. Companions will also find solutions to their individual tasks during this phase.
The Githyanki Ambush reveals the true nature of the player character, the Dream Visitor, a renegade illithid known as the Emperor who oversaw the imprisonment of Orpheus, a powerful Githyanki Human beings are also the source of the player’s defense against absolute psychic energy.
The protagonist fights against the Death Trio and collects Hellstones to subdue the Elder Brain. During the climactic battle, the player character Orpheus, Karak, or another party member volunteers to transform into a mind flayer in order to effectively wield the Hellstone.
