Early life
Bandile Edgar Wallace Masuku was born at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto in the (now defunct) Transvaal Province.

He grew up in Soweto surrounded by friends and family in his neighbourhood. Bandile’s early days were marked by notoriety. He is now in his 50s.
Education
Bandile Masuku was expelled from school. While studying at Sekano-Ntoane Senior Secondary School, he became involved in a youth activism movement. He also joined the Congress of South African Students (COSAS) and was admitted multiple times in 1993 after trying out the year before.
He enrolled at the Sefako College of Health Sciences in 1994. Four years later, he enrolled in Medicine and completed his degree in 2004; after an additional year of study. He was also president of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University and was elected to the National Executive Committee of the South African Students’ Congress in 2002.
Career
Bandile Masuku works as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at several hospitals in South Africa, namely; Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Pholosong Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. He was also appointed as the Director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit at Thelle Moherane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus, Gauteng.
In 2013, Bandile was appointed Spokesperson of the African National Congress Youth League (ANYCL).

He was appointed to the Gauteng Provincial Government and resumed his role as a Member of the Legislature on 22 May 2019. Seven days later, he was appointed Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health and was sworn in the following day.
On 29 July 2020, the ANC PEC instructed Bandile and his wife to resign following allegations of financial misappropriation.
Personal life
Bandile Masuku is married to Loyiso Masuku and is the father of three sons and currently resides in Alberton, Gauteng. His wife is an ANC City Councillor in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.
