Bassey Edet Otu is a Nigerian politician who served as a representative to the Federal House of Representatives representing Calabar Municipal/Odukpani District of Cross River State from 2003 to 2011.
In the April 2011 elections, he was elected Senator for Cross River South on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2016 and was elected as the party’s Cross River South Senatorial candidate in the 2019 elections. Following the 2023 governorship election, Prince Otu is now the Governor-elect of Cross River State.

Early life
Bassey, Prince of Wales Edet Okon Otu was born in Eld on 18 October 1959 to Mrs Edet Okon Otu in Adiabo, Odukpani Local Government Area, Cross River State.
He grew up in Jos, Plateau State, where his father was assigned as a missionary for the Church of Scotland, and his hometown was Calabar.
He holds a BA in Social Sciences from the University of Calabar. Before entering politics, he worked in the banking and oil industries.
He also has a passion for farming. Otu graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of Calabar.
Career
Before entering politics, he worked in the banking and oil industries. He is also passionate about agriculture. Otu was first elected to represent the Calabar/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in April 2003. He was re-elected in April 2007.
