As Lopez filed for divorce, insiders claim that Affleck made a gesture that underscored the complexity of their relationship.

A “friend” of the now-estranged couple told the Daily Mail that the “Gone Girl” actor kindly allowed Lopez to file for divorce first in an act of “compassion” and generosity.
“Ben knew Jennifer was going to file for divorce. He wasn’t surprised by it. In fact, he let her do it,” the unnamed insider confirmed.
They added, “Jennifer is more concerned with [the split] will affect her career, what fans will think and what the press will write.”
It’s worth noting that the “Jenny From the Block” singer has suffered a number of setbacks in the months leading up to her divorce filing on Tuesday.

After releasing her first solo album in 10 years, “This Is Me…Now” debuted at number 38 on the Billboard 200 chart, while her documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” received harsh criticism from viewers.
Affleck then moved out of their lavish $60 million Beverly Hills estate, and they eventually decided to sell their mansion.
On July 24, the “Hustlers” actress’s 55th birthday, Affleck purchased a $20.5 million estate in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood.
“Ben’s decision to move into his own home is the ultimate insult,” an unnamed insider told Radar Online at the time.
“J.Lo still hopes they can reconcile if they take some time apart, but this feels like a stab in the heart,” they added.

In the weeks before she officially filed for divorce in Los Angeles, multiple reports emerged that Lopez and Affleck were on the verge of ending their two-year marriage, especially after his latest real estate purchase.
However, both parties hesitated to make the formal proceedings official until Lopez decided to act on their second wedding anniversary in Georgia in 2022.
Last month, an unnamed insider “close” to the couple told the Daily Mail that divorce papers were finalized but Affleck and Lopez were deliberately delaying the filing.
Sharing his prediction about the consequences of the filing, the source said, “At that time, they will release a joint statement saying that they are very much in love with each other and have been fighting to make things work but have not been successful.”
As for why Affleck and Lopez split, another unnamed insider told the outlet: “Honestly, in the end, they couldn’t come to a compromise. What they had before is gone and they both accept that.”
