Early life
Medina was born on January 24, 1958 in California to Dominican parents in a poor family. His mother’s death and his father’s abandonment sent him into countless foster homes and then was adopted by his aunt.
He befriends a rich white teenager and his family allows him to live in their garage in Beverly Hills. He also attended Beverly Hills High School and had the opportunity to star in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Career
Medina initially joined a singing group called Apollo and released an album on Gordy/Motown in 1979. Medina co-wrote several songs, The Temptations, Rick James and Smokey Robinson, the lead singer of these songs .
They were produced by Ray Motown. He became Motown’s head of AR&R at age 24 and was a protégé of Berry Gordy. He then moved to Warner Bros. Records and was asked to elevate the position of VP and GM alongside famous artists.
