Tekken 8 gameplay

Tekken 8’s fighting game style is similar to previous Tekken games. Game producer Katsuhiro Harada said that the design of “Tekken 8” is “more aggressive” than its predecessor, rewarding players who take the initiative to attack rather than defend.

To achieve this goal, Tekken 8 introduces a new system called “Heat”. When a character enters a “warm-up” state, it not only deals chip damage and unlocks additional moves, but also changes the properties of certain moves, such as Heavy Guard Break. A fighter in this state can dash to cancel their actions. Heat’s timer can be stopped by using the fighter’s moveset, and defending against a critical hit or Heat status character causes chip damage, allowing the player to restore health by attacking the opponent.

The game also brings technical updates and redesigned features. The “Rage” system from the previous game returns with changes, such as “Rage Drive” being separated and redesigned into “Heat Crush”, a super move tied to the Heat system. The “screw” mechanic is replaced by the “tornado” extender, and some levels present hazards, such as harder walls and floors that require multiple attacks to break, and explosive elements that cause opponents to explode upwards.

Tekken 8 aims to provide a more cinematic combat experience, emphasizing staged destruction and specific character reactions. All character models and voice acting are brand new, with no reuse from previous entries. The online mode features an “Arcade Quest” battle lobby with an arcade environment, regular online battles, and tournaments. Players can customize their avatar using an in-game currency called “Fight Money.” Tekken 8 is powered by the next-generation Unreal Engine 5, making it the first major fighting game to use this advanced engine.
