Beyoncé threatens to shut down Trump campaign over use of her song ‘Freedom’

Beyoncé is unhappy with Donald Trump’s campaign for using her song “Freedom” in a social media post.

Rolling Stone magazine reported that Beyoncé threatened to stop working with Trump after his spokesperson shared a video of the Republican presidential candidate singing along to a song from her album “Lemonade.”

The videotape Posted by Trump spokesman Steven Cheung via X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday shows the former president stepping off a plane while the song “Freedom” plays in the background.

“Landing in Michigan!! @realDonaldTrump,” Cheung captioned the clip.

However, an anonymous person on Beyoncé’s team told the music magazine that the Trump campaign did not have the pop superstar’s permission to use the song, which features Kendrick Lamar.

The campaign video, titled “Freedom,” has now been deleted from Cheung’s account.

While Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Kamala Harris, she has allowed Democratic presidential candidate and running mate Tim Walz’s campaign to use “Freedom” as its official theme song.

The song was played at Harris’ first presidential campaign rally in late July.

With Beyoncé’s approval, “Freedom” was also featured in numerous campaign ads and at the Democratic National Convention.

On Monday, the Harris-Walz campaign released a new ad featuring the title “Freedom” and narration by award-winning actor Jeffrey Wright.

“What kind of America do we want?” Wright says in the ad. “An America where we’re divided, angry, frustrated? Come on!”

“We are Americans!” he continued. “Fascism? We conquered it. The moon? We landed on it. The future? We built it. Freedom? No one loves it more.”

Meanwhile, Trump has been repeatedly threatened with lawsuits and cease-and-desist orders for using songs without permission from the artist or record label.

Earlier this month, Céline Dion criticized his campaign for playing her hit “My Heart Will Go On” at a rally in Montana.

Dion’s team shared a statement via the superstar’s social media pages, which read: “Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., discovered the unauthorized use of video, audio recordings, musical performances and images of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump/JD Vance campaign rally in Montana.”

“This use is not authorized in any way and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use. … And really, THAT SONG?” the article added, referring to the original music used in the movie “Titanic.”
