Bhanupriya Pandu Babu (born 15 January 1967), known professionally as Bhanupriya, is a popular Indian actress, Kuchipudi dancer and voice artist.

In a career spanning over four decades, she appeared in 155 feature films, primarily in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, in a variety of roles.

Bhanupriya has won three state Nandi Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, two Filmfare South Awards and two Cinema Express Awards.

Early life

Bhanupriya was born and raised in Rangampeta village near Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, on 15 January 1967. She was born into a Telugu-speaking family.

Her father’s name is Pandu Babu, and her mother’s name is Ragamali. She was originally named Mangabhanu, and she adopted Bhanupriya along the way. She has a niece named Shishya Ray.

Bhanupriya and her family later moved to Andhra Pradesh from her hometown Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She has an elder brother named Gopikrishana and a younger sister, Shantipriya, who has been a film actress since the 1990s.

Bhanupriya married Adarsh ​​Kaushal, a digital graphics engineer, at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Malibu, California. They are said to have tied the knot on June 14, 1998.

They had their first child, a daughter they named Abhinaya, in 2002. Bhanupriya and Adarsh ​​Kaushal had a falling out and divorced in 2005, citing irreconcilable differences.

Bhanupriya returned to India soon after the divorce and resumed her acting career. She lives in Chennai with her daughter. Adarsh ​​Kaushal died in 2018 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Bhanupriya was a leading mainstream actress for over a decade, from 1983 to 1995. She began her acting career with the Tamil film Mella Pesungal (1983). She then appeared in the Telugu hit Sitaara, which won the National Film Award for Best Telugu Feature Film that year.

She then played an ornithologist in the 1985 mystery film Anveshana. In 1986, she made her Hindi film debut opposite Dosti Dushmani.
