Early life
Horschel was born in Florida on December 7, 1986, to Dr. Billy Horschel and Kathy Horschel. He has two older brothers who also enjoy playing sports. Horschel initially played baseball but was injured at the age of 14.
This led him to choose Golf. Golf became his passion and he wanted to play Golf professionally ever since. Horschel attended the University of Florida and earned a degree in Sports Management.
He graduated from college on a scholarship, where he played for the Florida Gator men’s golf team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. He played from 2006 to 2009 and earned three first-team honors.
He also earned four All-American honors and was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and 2009. Horschel even represented the United States in two Palmer Cup appearances in 2007 and 2008. He also won the prestigious Walker Trophy.
He won the 2006 US Amateur medal at Hazeltine National Gold Club in Chaska, Minnesota. He set the opening round record and holds the USGA record. However, Horschel was unable to compete in the 2006 US Open.
