Bimbo Akintola was born in a public hospital in Oyo State on May 5, 1970. She was born in Ibadan to Mr. and Mrs. Akintola.
She is a Nigerian of Yoruba and Edo descent. Her father is an Oyo woman and her mother is an Edo woman. She comes from a family of six and is the third child of the Akintola family.
Bimbo Akintola developed an interest in acting at an early age. She acted in school plays and end-of-year dramas during her primary and secondary school years. Her love for acting led her to study theatre arts in college. She lived in Oyo and Lagos states during her growing up years.

In the following years, Bimbo Akintola starred in many Nigerian blockbuster films. The most notable ones are Diamond Ring (1998), The Gardener (1998), Dangerous Twins (2004), Beyond Judgment (2007), Smoke and Mirrors (2008), Hudrash (2012) and Aitale (2013).
In 2022, Bimbo Akintola was chosen to play the role of Mabel Wilmer-Willoughby in the Netflix original series Far From Home. The series was released in December 2022. She also starred in the web series African City.
