Early Life & Education

Biodun Oybanji was born in Ikogosi-Ekiti, the capital of his home State of Ekiti, on 21 December 1967. He is of Yoruba ethnicity in Nigeria.

He began his educational journey at Baptist Primary School in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Before enrolling at CAC Grammar School in Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State, in 1979, he studied at Awo Community Secondary School.

He studied at the Federal School of Arts and Sciences in Ondo State and the Commercial Secondary School in Aramoko, Ekiti, from 1983 to 1985.

He graduated in Political Science from Ondo State University, now known as Ekiti State University, in 1989. His master’s degree in political science from the University of Ibadan was awarded to him in 1992.

Career

Abiodun Oyebanji was a lecturer in the University’s Department of Political Science from 1993 to 1997.

He served as a Director of the now defunct Omega Bank PLC, now known as Heritage Bank, from May 1999 to May 1999. He managed Con Dios Farm LTD and worked in the agricultural sector Karma.

Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has a long history of political activism in Ekiti, having held the positions of Special Assistant (Parliamentary Affairs) and Special Adviser (Parliamentary Affairs) to the Governor of Ekiti State (dated June 8, 1999–2000).

Additionally, from 8 June 1999 to 20 June 2000, he served as Special Adviser to the Governor of Ekiti State (Parliamentary Affairs). (June 8, 1999–2000). (August 1, 2000–September 1, 2001).

From September 2001 to 29 May 2003, Hon Oyebanji served as Governor of Ekiti State and from June 2009 to December 2010, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for Leadership and Citizen, part of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Politician Ikogosi holds the positions of State Commissioner for the Ministry of Integration and Intergovernmental Affairs and Director-General of the Office of Transformation Strategy and Transformation (OTSD) of Ekiti State.

Biodun Oyebanji served as Secretary to the Ekiti State Government under Governor John Kayode Fayemi until he announced his desire to run for Governor of Ekiti.

Governor’s ambition

Biodun Oyebanji resigned as SSG of the state on December 7, 2021 to focus entirely on the governorship race. The resignation was sent to the Governor in a letter dated December 3, 2021, according to a statement from the Governor’s Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode.

Oyebanji resigned because he decided to run for governor of the state in the next election.

According to the statement, Governor Fayemi thanked the former SSG for his significant contributions to the administration since its inception in 2018 and wished him success in his future endeavours.

A few days later, he would be taken to Abuja by some political appointees to receive his election nomination.

Governor Fayemi and the first executive governor of the state, Niyi Adebayo, provided Biodun Oyebanji with the greatest lecture on governance and politics, allowing him to overcome difficult terrain and deliver, he said in a tour of his election campaign.
