Blessing Oborududu is a Nigerian freestyle wrestler born on 12 March 1989 in Gbonranu.
She is currently the second ranked female wrestler in the world and is also the first Nigerian wrestler to win an Olympic medal at the Olympics.

Early life
Blessing Oborududu was born in Gbanranu, Bayelsa State, on March 12, 1989.
She had ambitions to become a wrestler since she was a child.
However, her parents were completely against her ambition to become a wrestler and advised her to pursue this profession because they believed that wrestling was only for boys. She is from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.
She was also bullied and discouraged by people in the community.
Blessing Oborududu was told that she did not have the physical build required to become a wrestler.

Career
In 2007, Blessing Oborududu was called to the National Park to participate in the African Games due to her skills. In addition, her talent was noticed in the school’s inter-house wrestling competitions. Her goal of wrestling was inspired by a Canadian-Nigerian wrestler named Daniel Igali.
To date, Blessing Oborududu has won the gold medal at the AFRICAN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP for 11 consecutive years, except for the time she was unable to participate due to competing at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
She also won a bronze medal in the women’s middleweight category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games by defeating Chloe Spiteri. Blessing Oborududu also competed in the women’s middleweight category at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but she lost in the second round of the match to her opponent, Soronzonboldyn Battsetseg.
In 2017, she won the gold medal in the women’s 63 kg category at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games. Blessing Oborududu was able to qualify for the 2021 African and Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualifying Tournament to represent Nigeria at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. At the 2021 Polish Open held in Warsaw, Poland, she won the silver medal.
On August 3, 2021, Blessing Oborududu won the silver medal in the Women’s 68kg Freestyle after losing to American opponent Tamyra Mensah-Stock (4-1) at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
This event made her the first Nigerian to win an Olympic medal in wrestling history. She also won Nigeria’s first silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
