Robert John Carr is a retired Australian politician and journalist who served as the 39th Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005.
He was leader of the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party during his time as Prime Minister.
After his term as Prime Minister, Carr entered federal politics and served as a Senator for New South Wales. He then served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2013.

Early life and education
Robert John Carr was born on 28 September 1947 in Matraville, New South Wales, Australia. He was born and raised by his parents, Edward Carr and Phyllis Carr, and grew up with his sibling, Greg Carr.
Carr completed his higher education at the University of New South Wales, where he graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in History. His ethnicity is Australian, although his specific religion is unknown.
Career
Robert “Bob” Carr began his professional career as a journalist for ABC Radio’s current affairs program from 1969 to 1971 and as a political and industrial relations correspondent for The Bulletin magazine from 1978 to 1983. He also served as education officer for the New South Wales Labor Council from 1972 to 1978.
Carr entered politics in 1983, winning a by-election to the New South Wales Legislative Council as the Labor Party member for Maroubra.
He had a long political career in the state, holding various ministerial positions before becoming Premier of New South Wales in 1995.
As Premier, Carr led the Labor Party to victory in the 1999 and 2003 state elections. During his tenure, he championed policies relating to planning, the environment and heritage.
After retiring from politics in 2005, Carr remained actively involved in public life, advocating for causes such as medical cloning and reducing immigration levels.
