With just days to go before TikTok is banned in the United States, the app has made a last-minute addition — Bob Dylan.
The legendary musician and singer decided to join the app on January 14. Dylan also shared his first video to the app with various clips recapping his up-and-down career. The video was later used as background music for his song “Like a Rolling Stone”.
To date, the video has attracted more than 440,000 views and more than 43,000 likes at the time of reporting. Dylan’s profile also has 12,300 followers and is not following anyone at this time.
Other TikTok users laughed at Dylan joining the app at the last minute.
“You have 30 minutes,” one user said.
“Just like Bob, appearing at the last minute,” another person shared.
“It’s a little late, man,” another joked.
“Bob, can you learn mandarin and switch to rednote,” one user asked, referring to the growing popularity of the RedNote app in the United States.
Earlier this month, the US Supreme Court heard arguments on whether TikTok can and may be banned in the country. Towards the end of the session, the Supreme Court made a decision to ban the app starting January 19.
According to United States todayIf the ban comes into effect on the 19th, the app will no longer be downloadable. Over time, the app will no longer be able to be updated, essentially rendering it inoperable.
The app’s parent company, ByteDance, was given the decision to sell TikTok to an American company or be banned in the country over concerns that the Chinese government could collect data. This has raised some national security concerns for the US government, Fox 5 reported. News agencies report that Chinese officials may hand over sensitive data to influence what information is shared.
So far, many celebrities and businessmen have stated that they are willing to make deals to buy the app so that it remains available in the United States. Those who expressed interest were Mr. Beast and Kevin O’Leary — and even Meek Mill.
Since the ban was announced, users have flocked to RedNote, which has become the top social media app in the Apple Store. This app has similar content to TikTok but also includes similar features to Instagram.
