Boris Franz Becker was born on 22 November 1967 in Leimen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, to Elvira and Karl-Heinz Becker, an architect who founded a tennis center in Leimen.
That’s where Becker started playing tennis. He was raised Catholic and attended the Helmholtz-Gymnasium in Heidelberg. He then went on to pursue a professional tennis career.
Tennis career
Becker is the youngest Grand Slam men’s singles champion in history, winning at the age of 17 years and 227 days. In 1985, he defeated Kevin Curren in four sets to become the first unseeded German to win the Wimbledon singles title.
He won the Tennis World Young Masters at the NEC in Birmingham as a teenager. Becker made his professional debut in 1984, winning his first professional doubles title that same year. He later formed a fierce rivalry with Stefan Edberg.
