early life
Boy Adequate was born in the ancient city of Benin to South-South mixed parents on February 25, 1996. Although Boy Adequate was born and raised in Edo State, he is an indigene of the neighbouring Delta State.
He grew up in a Christian family, which meant that he started going to church at a young age. As he often attended the local church, he became interested in the choir and applied to become a part of the group.
Since he was a choir member, Boy Adequate learned how to write and sing gospel songs as well as play instruments. Still, he was exposed to other types of music, heard their sounds, and became a better music lover.
Soon after, he began writing Afrobeat songs in the comfort of his parents’ apartment, performing them in front of a mirror in his bedroom.
While growing as an artist, he fell in love with songs created by music stars like 2baba, Khalid, Burna Boy, etc. Listening to these artists inspired and motivated him to create better music to attract more listeners.
In order to start making music professionally, he created the nickname “Boy Adequate” as his stage name.

Boy Adequate made his mark in the music industry in March this year when he released his hit single “My Life.” Produced by Slimpee Beatz, the song brought the Afro-pop singer some fame and a ton of fans.
However, his biggest success as an artist is the hit single Wavy Level. Since the song was released, it has been widely played on traditional and online radio, with over 10,000 plays, and has been used as the background music for several Instagram videos and short films.
Wavy Level is the first single from Boy Adequate’s upcoming project, Godspell EP, which he revealed will be released in 2022. In order to give his fans a timeless project, he teamed up with East African production company 9th Records, who were responsible for the sound production of the tracks on the EP.
