Early life and education
American musician Matt Champion is from The Woodlands, Texas and was born on February 14, 1995.
He grew up in a working-class family in The Woodlands — his father was a construction engineer who abandoned the family shortly after he was born, and his mother was a teacher; he has one relative. According to his Instagram profile, he has one sibling.
Matt Chapin attended Tove Elementary School. Later, he transferred to The Woodlands High School in Texas. During his high school years, he developed a keen interest in music. The singer left college early and moved to Los Angeles to start his music career.
Profession
Prior to joining the band, Matt Chapin tried his hand at solo performance. He has released a number of tracks on his SoundCloud page, including “Burn” and “You’re Too Cool For Me”.
He eventually became a member of AliveSinceForever, a company founded by Kevin Abstract and a team of 30 people including photographer Ashlan Grey, agent Jon Nunes and producer Romil Hemnani.
The band released its debut EP in 2013. The following year, the band changed its name and became Brockhampton. On the Kanye West forum, some of the band’s new members were spotted (KanyeToThe).
Matt Champion has had a very successful career as the lead singer of Brockhampton. The band released its first single “Bet I” in 2015. Later, for unknown reasons, the song was removed from all streaming services. Soon after, the band released the singles “Hero” and “Dirt”.

Lead singer Ameer Vann resigned the following year following allegations of sexual assault on social media. Brockhampton’s fourth album, Iridescence, was released in 2018.
It became the band’s first number one album on the Billboard 200. It was followed by the fifth album, Ginger (2019). The band released the single “Sugar” on January 14, 2020. It was very popular, peaking at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100. Boy Bye and No Halo are two other singles released by the band in the same year.
