“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” Christmas event
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” is holding a limited-time special Christmas event and launching a new game mode. This is exciting because it brings something fresh to the game and addresses previous complaints about the game’s lack of originality. The event is inspired by other shooters like Overwatch 2 and offers a festive experience in regular multiplayer and Warzone modes.
A new mode called “Snow Battle” is particularly cool, as it makes up for some fans’ disappointment that the game didn’t have a Gunfight mode when it first launched. Snow battles add a fun and casual twist to competitive gaming.

Modern Warfare 3’s Christmas event handles map criticism well
In addition to the new game modes, some classic maps in Modern Warfare 3 are getting a festive makeover for the CODMAS event. To celebrate this event, the famous maps Shipment and Highrise have been renamed Shipmas and Hangover. Now they feature new holiday-themed decorations and weather.
It’s a great way to show that Modern Warfare 3 is moving away from criticism that Modern Warfare 3 relies too much on content from past Call of Duty games without bringing anything new to the table. While the game originally used maps from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, the festive reskins for Shipment and Highrise show that Sledgehammer Games is willing to make changes. The reason this happens is that Modern Warfare 3 introduces brand new maps (such as Meat and Greece), making the positive impact of these Christmas-themed maps even more pronounced.
Modern Warfare 3 faced legitimate criticism upon launch, and it became clear that the game needed to establish its own identity while distancing itself from the legacy of previous games. The CODMAS campaign in MW3 succeeds in achieving this goal, addressing some of the game’s weak points and adding engaging variations to the maps and game modes that are both timely and fun.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III” is a first-person shooter developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision Blizzard. This game is the twentieth game in the “Call of Duty” series and the third game in the rebooted “Modern Warfare” sub-series, following the events of 2022’s “Modern Warfare II”.
The game was released on November 10, 2023 on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. “Modern Warfare III” retains the realistic and contemporary setting of the previous game and continues the overall narrative of the series.
The storyline revolves around the multinational Special Operations Forces Task Force 141 as they hunt down Vladimir Makarov, a Russian ultranationalist and terrorist who plans to incite World War III. The multiplayer portion of the game features remastered versions of all 16 base maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, with additional maps being prepared for post-launch updates.
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” gameplay
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III offers similar gameplay to its predecessor, Modern Warfare II, and the broader Call of Duty series. It retains features such as slide to cancel, and introduces “open combat missions” in the campaign, allowing players to approach targets more freely.
In multiplayer mode, all 16 maps of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be accessible at launch. Players can vote for maps in the matchmaking lobby, a feature returning after being omitted from some recent games. The game also increases the player’s health, thereby extending the “time to kill” (TTK).
The “red dot” minimap, which was not present in Modern Warfare 2019, is back with a vengeance, showing the location of enemies when they fire unsuppressed weapons. Classic game modes like Kill Confirmed and Hardpoint are back, along with a new mode called Cutthroat. Ground War and War modes return with dedicated maps, and AI-driven moderation can identify and report toxic behavior. More than a dozen new multiplayer maps will be released at launch.
A highlight is the novel open-world PvE Zombies mode developed in partnership between Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games. Unlike traditional turn-based Zombies, it follows a DMZ mode structure, with up to 24 players forming squads to battle zombies and AI-controlled human enemies to complete objectives, collect loot, and extract items. The mode introduces “zones” instead of rounds, with escalating difficulty levels. Aetherstorms and narrative-driven story missions add depth to the experience.
