In episode 16 of The Captive King, tensions rise as the king refuses his mother’s request to protect Mong-woo. Meanwhile, Hee-soo discovers that the Qing emperor is interested in her. Although the king promises not to send Hee-soo away, Governor General Jae-nam has different ideas and suggests sending her to Beijing to keep the peace.
With Jin’s help, Hee-soo convinces the king to let her go to Beijing, and assures the king during a game of go that she will return safely. Meanwhile, Dal-ho seeks revenge for Hong-jang’s death, and Sang-hwa gives her three days to confront Hyun-bo.
Unfortunately, Dal-ho accidentally kills Hyun-bo in his quest for revenge. Myung-ho tells Hee-soo the news, and Hee-soo is relieved to know about Dal-ho’s involvement. As Hee-soo prepares to leave, she receives a farewell gift from the king. Before she leaves, Hee-soo spends a special night with the king, expressing their love for each other. The king then focuses on his duties and closes his private go venue.
Nine months later, Jepyo, who betrayed Joseon and joined forces with Qing, reappears in Joseon society. The king pretends to be friendly with Jepyo but secretly plots revenge. Meanwhile, King Seo’s death allows the princess to return to Joseon, where she is secretly replaced by a maid. Hee-soo returns cautiously, meeting only with Myeong-ha.
