Anxiety in Inside out 2 he means well, but is ultimately harmful, as his plans to help end up causing more harm. Kendrick’s Martha balances that anxious nature and desire for perfection with a warm personality, making her an easy protagonist to root for and a great choice to capture Anxiety’s complexity on film.

That said, the few beats he gets he uses to help the original five emotions, gaining some confidence in the process. This journey mirrors that of Charlie, whose battles with anxiety and calmness into a comfortable personality can be easily transferred by Locke to represent the character.
