Early life and education
René Angélil is a Canadian music producer, talent manager and singer born on January 16, 1942 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was born to parents Joseph Angélil and Alice Angélil, who were members of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. Angélil is the eldest of two children, with a younger brother, André, born in 1945.
Angélil was educated at Collège Saint-Viateur (high school) in Outremont and Collège André-Grasset (post-secondary) in Montreal. Angélil has mixed Middle Eastern heritage. His father is of Syrian descent, and his mother is of Lebanese descent. Angelil practices Christianity as his religion.
Career
René Angélil began his career in 1961 as a pop singer in Montreal. With childhood friends, he founded the pop-rock group Les Baronets. The band had hits in the 1960s and mainly translated English pop songs into French.
After Les Baronets dissolved in 1972, Angélil and his friend Guy Cloutier began managing artists. They worked on the careers of successful Quebec entertainers such as René Simard and Ginette Reno. Angélil and Cloutier eventually parted ways in 1981 to become solo managers.
In 1981, after hearing her demo tape, Angélil took over as Celine Dion’s representative. He continued to manage Dion’s career until 2014 when he resigned due to being diagnosed with cancer.

René Angélil had three marriages throughout his life. In 1966, he married his first wife, Denyse Duquette. They had a son, Patrick Angélil, in 1968 but divorced in 1972.
Angélil’s second marriage was to singer Anne Renée from 1974 to 1986. They had two children together, Jean-Pierre Angélil and Anne-Marie Angélil.
Angélil’s third and final marriage was to famous singer Céline Dion. The couple began their personal relationship in 1988 when Dion was 20 years old. They married on December 17, 1994, in a lavish ceremony at Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal that was broadcast live on Canadian television.
