Chappell Roan comes under fire again after admitting frustration at late recognition: ‘It’s actually cocky, selfish’

Chappell Roan expressed frustration at the late recognition she received as an artist.

“What’s infuriating is how people are just taking me seriously,” she said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “It’s like, ‘You know what, bitch? I’ve been doing this shit and you’re just catching on.’”

After years of dedication to the music industry, Roan achieved unexpected success with the song “Pink Pony Club” in 2020, the same year she parted ways with Atlantic Records.

After a three-year journey, she’s reaping the rewards of her labor as Roan dominated the top 10 of the Billboard 200 all summer. Her follow-up release, “Good Luck, Babe!” also secured her first top 10 hit.

“I get almost a hundred thousand followers a day,” the “My Kink Is Karma” singer added.

“At first, I was in complete denial. They literally just gave me some statistics and all I could do was say, ‘No, no, no. That’s not it.’ I couldn’t say, ‘I’m having success.’”

Chappell Roan told Rolling Stone magazine that it was disappointing that people were only now taking her seriously:

After the 26-year-old singer “fell apart”, many fans expressed their disappointment with her behavior and the fame she was achieving.

They took to X to express their views, where one commenter criticized @taraliyah, “Honestly this seems so pretentious and selfish. Just because you make music doesn’t mean the world will take you seriously in the first place lol.”

@eternalcumslim wrote, “I’m sick of hearing this woman complain.”

“Girl, can you just enjoy yourself for a second? It’s annoying how you complain about everything,” @theunseriousalesguggested.

@FTL_Bonnie said, “It’s boring, annoying, unbearable and has the right to be.”

According to @lemonradio, “She ignored the fact that her music up to this point wasn’t produced by a good producer and was held back by some of her worst songs ever.”

@MINAJS_MULLET suggested, “Can she show some gratitude?? she’s really a small artist that a lot of people don’t know about. get over yourself. you just entered the industry and can’t even show gratitude? she doesn’t deserve it.”

@bustingsoft said, “she must be on a mission to make people hate her,” and @ohrighton119 believed, “Yeah, I wonder if she’s built for long-term fame.”

This is not the first time Roan has been embroiled in controversy after expressing his frustration.

In a TikTok post, the “Naked In Manhattan” hitmaker expressed her frustration at someone violating her personal boundaries.

Expressing her feelings last month, Roan shared her thoughts after a series of “intrusive fans” and their “creepy behavior,” and immediately received backlash for it, with X user @positionsmafiaa tweeting, “It’s clear this girl has no intention of being a pop star and it’s time you guys realized that.”
