Chipper Jones was born in DeLand, Florida, on April 24, 1972, to Larry Wayne Jones Sr. and Lynne Jones.
His father was a teacher and coach at the same high school Chipper later attended and played baseball at, T. DeWitt Taylor High School in Pierson.

His first marriage was to Karin Fulford in 1992, but they divorced in 2000 after it was discovered that Jones had an affair with a Hooters waitress, resulting in the birth of their son Matthew.
Soon after divorcing Karin, Jones married Sharon Logonov in March 2000.
They had three sons: Larry Wayne III (Trey), Tristen, and Shea, named after Shea Stadium, where Jones played his greatest success. However, their marriage also ended in divorce in November 2012 after separating earlier that year.
