Career
Christian Eriksen began his senior club career at the age of 18 in 2010, playing for Dutch club Ajax. During his time there, he won three Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup, establishing himself as one of European football’s brightest young talents.
In 2013, Eriksen moved to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, joining the London club for a transfer fee of £11 million (€12.45 million). At Tottenham, Eriksen flourished, twice being named the club’s Player of the Year. He was also voted into the 2017–18 PFA Team of the Year thanks to his consistently outstanding performances.
Eriksen’s time at Spurs culminated in the club reaching the 2019 UEFA Champions League final, although they ultimately failed to lift the trophy. In 2020, Eriksen left Tottenham, signing with Italian giants Inter Milan for a transfer price of 19.7 million euros (16.9 million pounds).
His time in Serie A was short-lived. However, he was not allowed to compete in the tournament due to an implantable defibrillator which he received after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match at UEFA Euro 2020.
After leaving Inter Milan, Eriksen signed a short-term contract with Premier League club Brentford in January 2022. His first appearance for the Bees was as a substitute in a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United. Eriksen replaced Mathias Jensen, who came on for Eriksen in the match in which he suffered a cardiac arrest.
On 15 July 2022, Manchester United announced they had agreed to sign Eriksen on a three-year contract. The Danish midfielder was given the iconic number 14 shirt at Old Trafford and made his debut for the club in a 2-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
Eriksen has since assisted in a win over Arsenal and scored his first goal for United in a win over Fulham. Eriksen’s international career is also impressive. He was called up to the Danish national U17 team in 2007 and quickly advanced at youth level, being named Danish U17 Talent of the Year 2008.
He made his senior international debut for Denmark in 2010 at the age of 18 and has over 130 caps, including appearances in six major tournaments. Most recently, Eriksen was called up to the Danish team to participate in UEFA Euro 2024.
He scored in Denmark’s opening group match against Slovenia. In the final group stage match against Serbia, he played his 133rd international match, becoming the most capped Danish player ahead of teammate Simon Kjær.
