Temita “Toddy” Suggs (94 in 2023) was born on September 25, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up in a musical and religious home with her parents, Reverend John and Lula Suggs. Temita grew up with eight brothers and sisters.

Semeta Suggs met Chuck Berry while performing at a club in St. Louis in 1948. They hit it off immediately and began dating soon after.
The couple married in 1948 and had four children: Darlin Ingrid, Aloha, Charles Jr. and Melody.
Mehta was a devoted wife and mother who often accompanied Chuck on tour and brought the family closer. Their love story spanned 68 years and Mehta was Chuck’s biggest supporter and inspiration throughout his career.
